Lake panel forms subcommittee on seaplane rules
Stockbridge lake commission advances seaplane study, stalls on dredging oversight.

Stockbridge lake commission advances seaplane study, stalls on dredging oversight. Meeting without chair Michael Nathan, who was traveling, the panel voted 5-0 to form a subcommittee, members Phil, Lori and Don Chavon, to research regulating seaplanes on Stockbridge Bowl after members cited a 150-page federal report on invasive-species risk and unclear state rules on "public access facilities." Chavon argued the commission "shouldn't sit on our hands" on a separate motion to appoint a liaison to the town's dredging project, calling it "one of the most important projects in the recent history of this lake," but the panel tabled that motion for two weeks pending input from Nathan. Members also tabled dam-restoration coordination at Bowl Outlet Park, heard that water-chestnut removal came in at $1,500 against a $15,000 budget, and learned the select board has not set a date for voting on the town's lake management plan, believed to be sometime in August.
