Ag Commission Approves CPA Farmland Fund Draft
The Stockbridge Agricultural Commission voted unanimously to approve a draft Community Preservation Act proposal to create an agricultural land preservation fund.
Other Committee · Meeting of October 5, 2026
STOCKBRIDGE — The Stockbridge Agricultural Commission voted unanimously to approve a draft Community Preservation Act proposal to create an agricultural land preservation fund. Member Shelby authored the draft, which commission members amended to remove a reference to an unrelated $50,000 Kampoosa Bog hydrology study and to add a placeholder for the number of Chapter 61A tax-classified parcels in town. Members cited Williamstown's use of CPA funds for a similar purpose and pointed to the pending $4.5 million sale of Windy Hill Farm as a reason the town needs its own purchasing tool, saying "this is kind of a perfect case example of why we need to start building a fund." Separately, members discussed bittersweet and other invasive plants overtaking roadsides, the Select Board's appointment of Bob Navin as tree warden, and a Tree City USA application due by the end of December.
