Stockbridge Select Board votes to keep harvesting bowl amid state dispute

Select Board · Meeting of July 2, 2026

Stockbridge Select Board votes to keep cutting invasive weeds in Stockbridge Bowl despite a state permit dispute. The board unanimously agreed to continue harvesting under its longstanding interpretation of a Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program permit while appealing to state supervisors Jesse Lettick and Rebecca, after a staffer identified as Deanne argued "one pass" means once per season rather than once per cutting trip. "They have said there is an interpretation difference between the two parties over what this permit means," the Stockbridge Bowl Stewardship Committee chair told the board.

Members also heard that a $55,000 GZA lake management plan has sat unapproved since 2022 and will come up for a vote in August, and that water chestnut removal costs came in far under a $15,000 budget, with only 29 plants pulled this year versus 1,300 four years ago. The board separately appointed seven residents to the Cultural Council and approved a one-day liquor license for Chesterwood.
