Lake Panel Advances Lilybrook, Seaplane Studies

Other Committee 2026-08-13 Part 2 · Meeting of August 13, 2026

Stockbridge lake panel pushes dredging study for silted tributary, probes seaplane ban. The Stockbridge Bowl Stewardship Committee voted unanimously Thursday to formally ask the town's conservation agent, Michael Canales, to request that engineering firm GZA price a feasibility study on dredging sediment from Lilybrook, the lake's largest tributary, after one member said "we wouldn't be doing our job" if the issue lapsed again. The Select Board has said it won't fund add-on dredging work until the main lake restoration project is finalized and budgeted.

A three-member subcommittee, with member Phil as spokesman, reported that Massachusetts law lets towns ban float-equipped aircraft on ponds over 10 acres with state Aeronautics Division approval, and was authorized to study bylaws already adopted in Wakefield, Holden and Shrewsbury. Members also approved the July 23 minutes, with two abstentions.
