Stockbridge Parks Board Approves $500 Playground Lead Test
Other Committee · Meeting of May 15, 2026
Stockbridge parks board OKs $500 playground lead test, $250 for disc golf trees. The Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to hire a professional to test every piece of equipment at the Interlaken Park playground for lead before new mulch goes down, after a member warned "I've seen lead damage in a child, and it's not pleasant." Aging slides, a merry-go-round and a seesaw there no longer meet safety standards and must be removed if damaged rather than repaired. The board also approved $250 for native trees to finish a long-unfinished disc golf course.
Members discussed a possible concrete skate park similar to Pittsfield's, though funding tied to the town's outdoor recreation plan could take a year or two. A pavilion project moving forward May 28 will run on a rented generator, roughly $5,000, rather than a $25,000 permanent electric hookup, powering a Massachusetts Cultural Council-funded summer concert series.
