Stockbridge Bowl committee to seek formal updates on dam, dredging
Other Committee · Meeting of May 14, 2026
Stockbridge Bowl panel presses town for regular dam and dredging updates. The Stockbridge Bowl Stewardship Committee agreed to draft a letter asking the Select Board to formalize reporting on the dam and lake dredging projects after members said they've gone months without substantive information. Chair Michael Canales said state regulators are reinterpreting the mechanical harvester's permit as one pass per season rather than per weekly run, threatening invasive-plant control across roughly ten permitted acres during the lake's 90-day boating season.
Member Louis Korman outlined a cyanobacteria bloom-response protocol in development with state regulators that could allow partial rather than full lake closures. The committee's updated lake management plan, unresolved since a 2023 Select Board submission, is expected back before the board within about three weeks. Resident Denny Alsop, "approaching 80," reported completing a canoe trip across the length of Stockbridge's waterway system.
