Stockbridge Committee Appoints Clerk, Begins Select Board Size Study
Other Committee · Meeting of March 23, 2026
Stockbridge forms committee to study expanding Select Board to five members. Chaired by Select Board member Georgia Marsden, the new nine-member study committee held its organizational meeting March 23, appointing Sally Underwood Miller as clerk and Patty Kea to compile comparative research by roll-call votes, with member Bruce Auerbach abstaining as a not-yet-sworn-in remote participant. The panel will examine peer towns Orange, Lanesboro, Weston and Holliston, all of which recently expanded from three to five selectmen, some by narrow town-meeting margins: Lanesboro's 2019 citizen's petition passed 55-52 before a later revote passed 75-25.
Any change in Stockbridge would require town meeting approval and a special act of the Massachusetts Legislature. Marsden said the process could take 15 months or more. Next meeting: May 7 at 1 p.m.
