Stockbridge Bowl dam clears phase one of safety review
Other Committee · Meeting of June 7, 2026
Stockbridge Bowl committee advances dam safety study and dredging permits, no leadership picked for FY27. Michael Canales told the Stockbridge Bowl Stewardship Committee the dam's phase two safety assessment is "on task, on time," with a full report expected this winter and a possible $250,000 in required tree removal near the high-hazard structure. The separate dredging project is entering a new permitting round, including MEPA review, a Chapter 91 waterways permit, an Army Corps filing and a 70 percent geotube design, through consultant GZA.
The state-funded boat ramp remains complete, but its kayak launch is stalled on missing parts. The zebra mussel monitoring program draws about $6,000 a year from the state, with the town covering the rest; members said, "we don't want to lose monitors for the zebra mussels" over swimming-rule confrontations. No chair or vice chair was chosen for fiscal 2027; that vote awaits the committee's first meeting after July 1.
