Panel votes to pursue seaplane rules for the Bowl

Other Committee · Meeting of August 27, 2026

Stockbridge lake panel votes to pursue seaplane restrictions, stalls again on Lily Brook silt. The committee overseeing Stockbridge Bowl voted unanimously to let its aircraft subcommittee contact town counsel, police and state regulators after members Don, Laurie and Bill reported that two other lake communities barred aircraft decades ago under rules that "kind of got grandfathered in." The subcommittee detailed the specs of a float-equipped Piper PA-18-105 Super Cub already using the lake, with takeoff speeds of 70 to 75 miles per hour, while stressing "this isn't a case against him" individually. Separately, a member said she still hasn't reached project contact Michael Canalis on silt fouling the Lily Brook causeway, a problem flagged in a 2012 regional report, and floated a scaled-back fix of roughly 50 cubic yards a year instead of full dredging.

The committee also approved its Aug. 13 minutes 5-0 and pushed a cyanobacteria presentation to Sept. 10.
