Historic Panel OKs Milk Shed Demolition

Other Committee · Meeting of August 31, 2026

Stockbridge historic panel swaps which outbuilding comes down at the old McBurney Barn estate. The Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously that a former milk shed at 23 Cherry Hill Road, owned by Hunt and Kate Morris, is not a "significant historic building" under the town's Historic Preservation Bylaw, clearing it for demolition. The finding amends a 2025 permit: a northwest-corner shed once approved for demolition will now be preserved and repaired instead.

Applicant representative Nick told the commission the milk shed is "in very poor shape and is not markable in any architectural or aesthetic way." The commission also approved its June 22-26 minutes and noted four easements tying the Morris property to neighboring Barbadoro land will be terminated. The main McBurney Barn is being restored and was not part of any demolition request.
